In the present era of competition, there is a surge in the demand of Communication skills, both written and oral. To achieve this, several techniques are used to develop these skills in students. One such method is Extempore that assists students not only in thinking on their feet but also in voicing their creative ideas with precision. Keeping this in view, an extempore competition on Topic - Genetics and Molecular Biology was organized on 17th September, 2014 by Department of Biotechnology for B.Sc. III semester students of Biotechnology & Microbiology. Students took keen interest and enthusiastically participated in large number. The students gave oral and power point presentations on varied topics of Genetics and molecular biology like replication of DNA, Mendel’s Law and its exceptions, structure and chemistry of DNA etc. Some of them had also prepared and brought poster and models to equip their presentations. Over all it was a very learning experience for students and they were looking forward to more of this type of competitions.
