Overview

The Department of Biotechnology at The IIS University was founded in the year 1999 with a vision to make an impact through quality education, training, research and innovation. The department is housed in the ‘D’ block of the campus and has been built in three floors. The department boasts of a state-of-the-art research laboratory, equipped with specialized instruments like PCR Thermocycler, Gel Documentation system, BOD Incubator, Inverted Microscope, Camera-fitted Microscope, etc. Apart from the biochemistry, molecular biology and microbiology laboratories, the department also provides plant tissue culture and animal cell culture facilities. The research interest of the faculty primarily lies in the fields of Cancer Biology, Environmental Toxicology, Phytotherapy, Microbiology, Microbial Technology, Enzymology, Endophytes and their secondary metabolites, bioplastics, Nanobiotechnology and Nanotoxicology, Quorum quenching,Toxicology, Environmental Biotechnology, Plant Biotechnology, Agriculture Microbiology, Medicinal plants and plant pathology, Mycorrhizal technology, Microbiology, Enzymology, Antibacterial Studies, Endophytes, bioactive products of microbial origin, bioremediation, Quorum quenching, Molecular Biology, Animal Cell Culture, Human non communicable diseases and Stress Biology.

To inculcate an aptitude for research among the young minds, the department has associations with various funding agencies like University Grants Commission (UGC), Department of Science and Technology (DST), etc. In its pursuit for academic excellence, the department undertakes study tours & field trips to various industries, organizes national & international conferences and conducts lectures by experts from varied fields of biotechnology.
