Brief history of Plant Tissue Culture (Contribution of Indian Scientist), Introduction to in vitro Methods. Terms and definition. Plant Tissue Culture media.Concept of totipotency Embryo culture, embryo rescue after hybridization and its applications. Introduction to the processes of embryogenesis and organogenesis and their practical applications.

Micropropagation: axillary bud, shoot- tip and meristem culture,anther culture.

Haploids and their applications. Somaclonal variations and applications. In vitro pollination and fertilization. Endosperm culture and production of triploids.Single cell suspension cultures.

Testing of viability of isolated protoplasts

Use of markers for selection of hybrid cells.

Practical applications of somatic hybridization (Hybrids vs. Cybrids)

Use of plant cell and tissue culture for genetic manipulation of plants. Marker assisted plant breeding.
