On January 12,2019 Prof. L.S. Ramaswami Memorial Oration cum Public Lecture was organised by the Department of Zoology, University of Rajasthan at the Academic Staff College, University of Rajasthan on Excitement and Application of Biotechnology in Human Health. The speaker of the day was Padma Bhushan Dr. (Mrs.) Manju Sharma. The lecture was attended by 34 students of Department of Biotechnology (B.Sc. and M.Sc.) along with the two teacher guides Dr. Ameeta Sharma and Dr. Neha Batra.

Dr. Manju Sharma is a profound biotechnologist working in various field of life sciences. She has played a significant role in establishing several institutions throughout the country which includes the National Institute of Immunology, the National Institute of Plant Genome Research, the Biomass Research Centres at Lucknowvand Madurai, the Plant Molecular Biology unit in University of Delhi and the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics. Currently she is working as the principal advisor to the Department of Science and Technology in Gujarat. The lecture delivered by Dr. Manju Sharma covered the areas of immunology, disease epidemiology, DNA and human genome project etc. She laid emphasis on the role of biotechnology in various fields such as food and nutrition, drug designing and delivery etc. Also, she mentioned the importance of interdisciplinary research in the field of Science and Technology for generating better future. Also, the Guest of Honour, Dr. (Prof.) Raja Babu Panwar, M.D. Cardiologist fellow from American College of Cardilogy delivered a lecture on applications and advance research occuring in the field of biotechnology.Students took keen interest in seeking new information and practical learning. In this visit 35 students visited and they were accompanied by two faculty members from the same department. Over all it was a very learning experience and students were looking forward to more of this type of visits.
