Objective of the workshop/seminar/activity:

1. To abreast students about production and quality control measures followed during Ayurvedic drug manufacturing.

2. To update students about various analytical instruments used in Biotechnology/Microbiology.

3. To give an overview of Pharmaceutical Industrial setup to students.

Summary/Description:

The visit to Ayushraj Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. Gave us great insights into the development of herbal drugs using the basics of AYUSH i.e. Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopath, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy. The exposure to the detailed design and working of various analytical instruments like FTIR, spectrophotometers (UV-VIS), and chromatography units (like HPTLC, HPLC, and Gas chromatography with Mass Spectroscopy) has helped the students in clearing up the early-stage queries related to the qualitative and quantitative phytochemical analysis of any known or unknown herbal formulation. The students also experienced and gained knowledge about the process of large-scale formulation of various polyherbal products into capsules, powder, tablets, and lotions. The groups of students were accompanied by Dr. Ishan Ullah Khan who guided them throughout the visit and answered their queries related to analytical instruments, production, and quality control checks applied on the manufactured herbal drugs.

Outcome of the activity/event/seminar/workshop: Participants were benefitted in variety of ways like:

  1. The post graduate students of Biotechnology and Microbiology understood the process involved in production of herbal formulations.
  2. They have understood the functioning of various analytical instruments like FTIR, GC-MS, HPLC, HP-TLC, AAS.
  3. They also visited the microbiology laboratory for screening of pathogenic microorganism
  4. They took a trip to capsule, ointment, syrup manufacturing units.
  5. The exposure to large scale herbal extraction setup was appreciated by the students.
