The genetic material

DNA and Genome: The primary structure of DNA, packaging of DNA, Gene in molecular terms, physical and chemical nature of nucleic acid,types of DNA (A, B, Z).

DNA replication and recombination

DNA replication in prokaryotes and eukaryotes, enzymes involved in replication, DNA repair mechanism- mismatch repair, base excision repair, Nucleotide excision repair photoreactivation, Recombination and repair (Holiday model)

Transcription and Post-transcriptional modifications

Transcription in prokaryotes and eukaryotes, mRNA structure (coding and non coding RNA; miRNA, siRNA and hnRNA), Ribozyme, Posttranscriptional modifications.

Translation and Post-translational modifications

Genetic code, Prokaryotic and eukaryotic translation, Post translational modification of proteins and its breakdown, inhibitors of protein synthesis.

Regulation of gene expression in prokaryotes and eukaryotes at transcription and translation level, Operon concept-positive and negative regulation of lac operon, trp operon
