The course will impart hands on training and skills to students for microbiology laboratory work that includes isolation, identification and enumeration of different microbes and evaluation of their metabolic capability using biochemical tests.
CONTENTS
1. Identification of bacteria by Gram’s staining method.
2. Isolation of fungi from soil.
3. Identification of fungi by lactophenol cotton blue staining.
4. Enumeration of fungal spores by haemocytometer.
5. Identification of Fungi (permanent slides).
6. Identification of Algae (permanent slides).
7. Identification of protozoa (permanent slides).
8. Studies of live protozoa and preparation of slides
9. Demonstration for utilization of sugars by oxidation and fermentation by microbes.
10. Production of enzyme catalase by microorganisms
