Objective: 

This course will enable the students to comprehend microorganisms present in different habitats and analyse their interactions with other organisms and environment.

Microbial world

Microbiology and its origins, brief idea of morphology of microbes (bacteria, fungi, algae, protozoa, viruses).

Microorganisms of marine and fresh water ecosystem

Microbes present in open ocean and benthic zones, streams and lakes. Sanitary analysis of water quality.

Unit III: 
Microorganisms of terrestrial ecosystem

Soil profile, microbes present in soil, rhizosphere, mycorrhizae, nitrogen fixing bacteria.

Unit IV: 
Normal and pathogenic flora of human and Animal body

Normal flora of different parts of body and their functions, Pathogens of common diseases – chicken pox, influenza, Tuberculosis, hepatitis, typhoid, diarrhea, malaria, candidiasis, COVID, FMD, Mastitis, Brucellosis, and Anthrax.
