A trip was organized by the Department off Biotechnology to National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Anand, Gujarat from 23rd to 27th March, 2015.A group of 20 students from B.Sc. and M.Sc. (Biotechnology and Microbiology), along with Prof. Pradeep Bhatnagar, Dr. Payal Mehtani and Dr. Charu Sharma visited NDDB and various associated institutes at Anand.
On day one (24 March, 2015), the group visited Tribhuvan Das Foundation, an NGO founded by Shri Tribhuvan Das Patel, works for upliftment of poor women and children of villages. The foundation has a diagnostic centre, physiotherapy centre, pharmacy and sonography lab that charges very less amount from the patients. The group also visited the handicraft department of the foundation.
The group then visited Vidya Dairy, India’s first student dairy established by Dr. V.Kurien and is run by the students of SMG College of Dairy Science and IRMA. The dairy provides first-hand training of modern dairy processing and management practices. The students also visited the effluent treatment plant of the dairy.
Next was the visit to Amul dairy, where the group first visited the dairy museum a documentary was shown on the history of white revolution. Later, they were shown the manufacturing plant of Amul. Finally in the evening the group visited the milk collection centre of a village in Kheda district. Here the students learned about the collection, initial testing and storage of raw milk.
Day two (25 March, 2015) started with visit to the Parikrama centre of NDDB, where the students gained knowledge of the history of NDDB, its working and various projects. Later, the group visited the campus of Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA). Followed by this was a visit to SardarVallabhbhai Patel and Veer Vithalbhai Patel Memorial.The group also explored the local market of Anand.
On the last day of the trip, the group headed to Ahmedabad, where they visited the famous Sabarmati Ashram and Alpha One, the largest mall of the town.
