26th APRIL - World Intellectual Property Day

(Year 2013 Theme - “CREATIVITY”)

On April 26, World Intellectual Property Day celebrates the invaluable contributions made by innovators and creators across the globe.

Significance of the day - World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) member states (including India) designated April 26 – the day on which the WIPO Convention came into force in 1970 – as World IP Day.

World Intellectual Property Day is a great opportunity to generate public and media interest in issues relating to intellectual property. While WIPO suggests a general theme each year, it is for individual IP offices and participating organizations to decide how best to use the event in order to make a splash, and to meet their own public awareness raising goals.

The aim of celebrating the day are to –

  • increase general public understanding of IP
  • increase public understanding of how the innovations and creations can be protected under the IPRs
  • understand how the IP protection help to shape the world
  • join with others around the globe to discuss and demonstrate how IP works to contribute to the flourishing of music and the arts and to driving the technological innovation that helps shape our world
  • build awareness of IP and its benefits among students, faculty and researchers
  • inform specific users or potential users of the IP rights system – artists, performers, photographers, musicians, inventors, entrepreneurs, etc. – of the rights provided by the IP system and the services available
  • discuss the career opportunity in IPRs

This is 13th World IP day, as the concept of celebrating IP day started in 2001 with the theme- “Creating the Future today”.

To celebrate the annual IP Day, the activities may include displays the objectives, message, key innovations, recent innovations, IP news, etc.

It is highly recommended to the research scholars and students of “Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights and patents” to participate in the event by contributing some presentation such as posters, photographs, artistic or some other related innovative things. The theme for the same would be preferably “Creativity”.

All the students, faculty and other staffs of the University are requested to visit the display of the participants and may make the concern queries or remarks.
