REPORT OF TRIP TO AMI 2015, DELHI
A group of 19 students from B.Sc. and M.Sc. (Biotechnology and Microbiology), along with Dr. Payal Mehtani and Dr. Charu Sharma attended the 56th Annual Conference of Association of Microbiologist of India and International symposium on “Emerging Discoveries in Microbiology” at JNU, New Delhi from 6th to 10th December, 2015.
A special workshop on Scientific Writing and Poster Making was organized by American Society for Microbiology (ASM) on 6th December, 2015 in which two faculty and two students of The IIS University were awarded the best performance certificates in quiz.
The conference inaugural was held on 7th December 2015 where messages on significance of microbiology were delivered by eminent microbiologist and scientist as Prof. T. Satyanarayana (AMI president), Prof. R. C. Kuhad (Chairman IAMS) Prof. Robert M Stroud (Eminent Scientist), Prof. B. N. Johri, Prof. Rup Lal (Eminent Microbiologist), Prof. B. C. Tripathy (Dean School of Life Sciences, JNU) and Prof. Jung-Hye Roe (President of Microbiology Society of South Korea)
Inaugural talk was delivered by Prof. Robert M. Stroud, Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, University of California San Francisco, California, USA on “Wiggle Wiggle, – Not a Trickle: How do Trans membrane Transporters work?”. This was followed by a
Plenary Talk on “Environmental Enteropathy, Oral Vaccine Failure and Growth Faltering in Infants in Bangladesh” given by Prof. William Petri, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA, USA.
The four day international conference included about 98 invited lectures from national and international scientists and academicians spread over parallel sessions. More than 600 posters were presented in the conference by the participants. On the concluding day, a special session on use of microbes to clean river Ganga was conducted.
The group attended various lectures and also visited the campus of JNU. The students also visited the local markets of Delhi.
