  • Visit to Ayushraj Enterprises Pvt. Ltd.

The Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology have jointly organized an industrial trip to Ayushraj Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. in Jaipur on 11th October, 2018. Postgraduate students of Biotechnology and Microbiology were accompanied by Dr Sreemoyee Chatterjee for this visit. Ayushraj Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. is a national level laboratory involved in the development and designing of non-allopathic drugs and products by involving the use of ancient techniques of AYUSH (i.e. Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopath, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy).

The laboratory has various sections which include:

  • The Bulk Extraction Division, where the extracts and pulps of various medicinal plants are extracted. This division includes extractors, distillators, driers, concentrators and boilers. The initial extracts for commercial production are prepared in this section.
  • The Formulation and Production Division, where the medicinal formulations (in form of capsules, tablets and syrups) and Ayurvedic products (like toothpastes, chyavanprash) are prepared and packed for commercial production. Some of the important instruments used in this section are the semi-automated and fully-automated fillers (for capsules), index sealing machines, end runners (for crushing), roll compactors, pouch fillers, octagonal blender, etc.
  • The Analytical Laboratory, where the research and development, and, quality control sections are present. The laboratory is well-equipped with the analytical instruments like FTIR machine, spectrophotometers (UV-VIS), chromatography machines (like HPTLC,HPLC, Gas chromatography, etc), calorimeters, pH meters, centrifuges, etc for chemical analysis of the product. The lab also contains a separate extract preparation chamber, a separate weighing chamber where weighing machine is placed on top of anti-vibrating table for accurate weighing, a separate microbiological analysis section with level 4 biosafety cabinets and various microbiological tools and instruments. The lab also contains the stability chamber for determining the shelf life of the products. The control sample room is also present where the commercial products are held for6 to 12 months, in case of any discrepancy occurrence after the market release of the products. A library is also present where books regarding the protocols and guidelines of the product manufacturingare present.
  • The visit to Ayushraj Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. proved very fruitful for us as we all came to know about the actual production and the steps involved before the market release of any product. This visit gave us an insight regarding the commercial production, R and D and quality control.

Time:                          1.30 PM

Venue:                        Aditya Hall

A Guest Lecture on “Science and Society” was delivered by Dr. M C Arunan, Kishore Bharti Fellow and Visiting Scientist, CUBE, HBSCE, TIFR, Mumbai. He talked about the ways of nurturing the young curative minds in he arena of science. He tried to define new domains of science in our daily life just by changing our perception. He quoted the saying ofDr. O Siddiqui “ Sophistication is in the mind so we don’t have to limit ourselves because of lack of resources.” He inspired the students by inciting the thought of raising questions and finding answers and utilizing right tools for analysis and right interpretation. Understanding science, classical scientific research and characteristics of research were briefly discussed by the concept of “Gully Cricket”. He wrapped the discussion with few examples to make students understand the role of science in society.

A one day visit to Biological Park Nahargarh, Jaipur was organized on 5th October 2018, Friday by Department of Biotechnology for B.Sc. (Biotechnology & Microbiology) and M.Sc. (Microbiology) students. It particularly focused on not only empowering our students with the basic knowledge of biodiversity of flora and fauna but also with the basic principles and concepts involved in ecology. Students took keen interest in seeking new information and practical learning. In this visit fifty students visited and they were accompanied by two faculty members from the same department. Over all it was a very learning experience and students were looking forward to more of this type of visits.

The Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology have jointly organized an industrial trip to Ayushraj Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. in Jaipur on 11th October, 2018. The lab also contains a stability chamber for determining the shelf life of the products. The control sample room is also present where the commercial products are held for 6 to 12 months, in case of any discrepancy occurred after the market release of the products. A well-equipped library is also present where books regarding the protocols and guidelines of the product manufacturing are available.

The visit to Ayushraj Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. proved very fruitful for students as they all came to know about the steps involved before the market release of any natural product. This visit gave an insight regarding the commercial production, R & D and quality control.

International conference on ‘Nextgen Genomics, Biology, Bioinformatics And Technologies’ was held from Sep 30th to Oct 2nd , 2018 at Fairmont, Jaipur, India. The conference was attended by research scholars of Biotechnology along with Dr. Sreemoyee Chatterjee and Dr. Radhika Sharma. This was the eight edition of their international conference series. Their tradition of offering a combination of academic content along with the solutions from the industrial side continues to be a noteworthy example of public-private partnership. The conference was being organized by SGRF Conferences, the education wing of SciGenom Research Foundation (SGRF) along with several co-hosts. They had highly accomplished and renowned invited speakers with varied expertise from around the globe. Apart from discussing the cutting edge NGS technologies and their applications, they had focussed sessions on plant, animal, microbial and medical genomics. During these three days there were 15 keynote lectures from some of the thought leaders in the community. To encourage, educate and inspire the next generation of scholars, they offered 25 YUVA and 97 GYAN scholarships along with 5 projects by students and post-docs posters along with the opportunity to pitch their science to expert panel. They also gave Excellence in science award to Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Director of ICAR – National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources for his great contributions to Indian Science. There were talks about portable real time DNA sequencing, from single gene to genome sequencing, single cell RNA sequencing, Exome sequencing and many more interesting topics. Dr. Anu Acharya from Mapmygenome gave a talk about Pharmacogenomics, enlightening about a technique which analyzes an individuals’s drug- responce profile, based on genetic makeup. This was curated to identify the most reliable markers for every drug, especially in cases where multiple genes were linked with a single drug reaction. Prof. Krishna Mohan Medicherla from BISR gave a talk on WES analysis of congenital pouch colon probands. There was a symposium about Live and let live: snakebite cure and poster presentations as well. This highly interdisciplinary conference was very beneficial for everyone and the beautiful venue of the conference in the Jaipur City, surrounded by the Aravali hills just added some more goodness to it.
